Steps to Update HTC Evo 4G with ICS 4.0.1 Firmware



It’s now time to update your HTC Evo 4G device with the latest alpha version of Ice Cream Sandwich ANDROID 4.0.1 firmware. There is still no clarity on when an official version of ICS Android 4.0 will be released for HTC Evo 4G device.
Note: This update of ICS Android 4.0 is not the official firmware version released by HTC but is the alpha version developed by third party developers.

Essential Pre Requisites:
Backup all the data present in your phone only with the help of below mentioned tips and not with the HTC Sync as after applying this update, you may or may not be able to get connected with HTC sync as this ICS is the only the alpha release.




Notes – Backup in the mail so that you can then restore manually
SMS Messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts Stored in Phone Memory – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Videos, Images, Videos & Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% to ensure that the device doesn’t get turned off in the middle of firmware update.
  • Uninstall all the antivirus applications present in your phone as they may interrupt the process of firmware update.

Procedure to Update ICS Android 4.0.1 Firmware in HTC Evo 4G Android Phone:

  1. Download ICS Android 4.0.1 for Evo 4G Package in your computer and then connect your Evo 4G with the computer. Now copy the downloaded ICS Zip file to your phone and ensure that it is not placed deep into the sub folders or else it may not get detected in the device.
  2. Next, copy the downloaded Zip file to your phone and then remove the connected USB cable. Now, enable the USB Debugging in your phone from the path Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging as shown in the below image.
  3. Turn off your phone to enter the phone in the recovery mode. To enter into the recovery mode, press the volume Down Key and simultaneously you need to press the Power button so as to enter in the boot loader Mode. In the boot loader mode, you then need to tap on the “Recovery” option as shown in the below image.
  4. In recovery mode, select “Clear Storage” so that all the cache data is deleted from your phone. Now, select “install zip from SD Card” > “Choose zip from SD Card” to choose the ICS Android 4.0.1 Zip file which you have placed in your phone.
  5. After this in the recovery mode, select “++++ Go Back ++++” and choose “reboot system now” for restarting the phone in the ICS Android 4.0.1 firmware. To check whether the firmware has been successfully updated or not, you need to select the path Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version where you will see that the firmware version as 4.0.1. If there is any other version then you need to update the same again.
